Applying for the NIH K99/R00 grant is a major milestone for many postdocs hoping to transition into independent research positions. I was fortunate to receive an impact score of 17 on my application—well within the typical funding range—but in the end, I didn’t receive the award. But also incredibly grateful for the experience, mentorship, and lessons I gained during the process. In this post, I’ll be sharing: How I prepared each component of the application, What helped me stand out (and what didn’t) and the checklist that might be useful
